Prelature of Ayaviri
Ayaviri, August 20 - The whole village of Umachiri, a district of the province of Melgar, celebrated the feast of its patron, la Virgen de la Asuncion (the Virgin of the Assumption) with great enthusiasm. The church and the streets were prepared since the early hours of the morning for the celebrations in honor of the Virgin. They began with a celebration of the Eucharist by Bishop Kay Martin Schmalhausen, SCV, Bishop Prelate of Ayaviri, in which were present the mayor, Mr. Roger Cáceres, officials and other authorities of the district, and a large number of faithful who implored the blessing of the Virgin with faith.
After the Mass the faithful carried the statue of the Virgin in procession in the town square, along with the statues of Saint Francis and Saint Dominic, stopping at various altars to receive homage. The whole village, united with the Bishop and the local priest, Fr. Alberto Ignacio Rodríguez, took part in the procession in which the presence of children was particularly notable, thus showing their deep faith and their unity around the Virgin.
