Ayaviri, December 10 - This December 8 the city of Macusani celebrated the feast of its patroness, the Immaculate Conception, a feast which brings many faithful to the city every year in honor of the Virgin. With the traditional procession of candles, fireworks, musical bands and dances, the Catholic people of the capital of the province of Carabaya did homage to their Patroness who they carried in procession in order that She might bless all their homes.
Bishop Kay Martin Schmalhausen S.C.V. celebrated the Mass in which he presented the new pastor of the city, Fr. Gustavo Mardones Maldonado who belongs to the Lumen Dei Union and has arrived in the province together with two brothers and two women religious of the same spiritual family to attend to the spiritual needs of the people and carry out their vocation of charity.
The Lumen Dei Union was founded in Cuzco in 1967 by Fr. Rodrigo Molina who, concerned about the evangelization of the Quechua speaking people gathered together a group of people to attend to this need of the Church. From this experience the Lumen Dei spiritual family has grown and now carries out its apostolic work in 14 countries throughout the world.
Fr. Jose Quispe, the former pastor of the parish, was given a grateful farewell as he sets off to exercise his pastoral ministry in another zone of the Prelature.
Macusani celebrates the Immaculate Conception with new pastor
