Prelature of Ayaviri
Ayaviri, January 25, 2007. During these last days, thousands of Ayavirans, devoted to the Virgen of Candelaria de Kolqueparque, came to celebrate this venerated image imprinted on a rock and that has its sanctuary on the hill that bears its name. Yesterday, January 24, the feast-day Mass was celebrated in which a great multitude of faithful were present to thank the Mother of God for all of the blessings granted during the past year, and also to raise their prayers or, to ask ¨Mamita¨ to intercede for graces.
It is said that the Virgin appeared with the Baby Jesus in her arms in 1934 to a group of shepherds caring for their flocks on the hill of Kolqueparque.
The Mother of God asked them to let the parish priest and all the people of Ayaviri know that She was there and would come to visit them. The shepherds left running to the town to give the good news to all their countrymen and when the climbed the hill they found the image of Candelaria imprinted on a rock. Since then, they celebrate it with devotion.
Currently, there exists the Brotherhood of Virgin of Candelaria of Kolqueparque that watches after the care of the Sanctuary and takes the image of the Virgin out for procession. In the say way, each year they elect leaders from different to take charge of the stations, dances, and running of the bulls among other celebrations.
