News - Prelature of Ayaviri - Happy Anniversary Bishop Kay!

Ayaviri, April 23, 2007 - Bishop Kay Martín Schmalhausen S.C.V. celebrated his first anniversary of Episcopal ordination with an emotional celebration of the Eucharist. Priests, religious and a large number of faithful came together at the Cathedral of Saint Francis of Assisi of Ayaviri in order to accompany our Bishop on this special day.

During his homily, repeating the words of Pope Benedict XVI, Bishop Kay asked the Lord to make him "a humble and simple worker in the vineyard of the Lord." While commenting on the readings he shared his longing to be "a good shepherd with the heart of the Good Shepherd, and as Jeremiah says, 'look for the lost sheep, cure the wounded or sick and strengthen the weak."

After the Eucharist, faithful from the different ecclesial associations and parish groups offered Bishop Kay Martín an ovation in which representatives of the clergy and several institutions in the Prelature wished him all the best in his episcopal ministry and performed some musical numbers for him.
